Independent Product Test 2010 - 2011

This year we had manufacturers representatives with their new laser guns from Stalker and Laser Technologies, We took the extra effort to have all old and new laser guns at the test. We feel it is our responsibility to show new technologies to participants.

To test the advertised claims of Laser Counter Measures, cones were placed at 500 feet and 1000 feet. Test vehicles containing the laser counter measure were told to drive at 30 mph counting down, three, two, one as they approached each cone. The officer then fired the laser gun for three seconds.

Each counter measure was given two tries at each cone. Only 3 miliradian laser guns were used meaning the beam width at 1,000 feet is 36" and at the 500 feet the beam width is 18".

In some cases the narrow beam of laser at 500 feet was too narrow to be seen or jammed by the laser counter measure and the slightest shaking of the officer's hand in targeting could have placed the laser beam outside the acceptance window of the laser counter measure.

Passport and Beltronics Laser Shifters were interfaced with their dash detectors and tested along with Laser Blinder products. It is critical that a laser counter measure jam a police laser gun at 1,000 feet. At 500 feet you can see the officer. Popular, new IACP approved laser guns were used and reported. We do not use radar or laser guns that have not received IACP approval and appear on their Conforming Products Listing.

The M27 Laser Blinder jammed each gun each time when mounted on a car. Attached to the AdaptivTechnolgies motorcycle under the headlight the M27 jammed the laser guns all except two times. On the first run with the M47 Laser Blinder it jammed  police laser guns all except four times. On its second run, adjusted for mounting and parallel placement of the transmitters, it jammed each gun each time. Both the Passport Qi 45 and the Passport 9500 Ci with their Laser Shifters attached outside the vehicle performed well against all guns. This was the same gun Laser Blinder had difficulty in jamming. Some of the misses of the laser countermeasures could be due to the officer's shaking of their hands.

(The AdaptivTechnologies TPX 2 had the Laser Blinder mounted under the motorcycle headlight.)

Watch SpeedZones Video of the testing of these devices here. (Takes a little while to load the video so be patient :-)

Note: All laser guns were checked for accuracy before use with a Known Distance Test and a Vertical and Horizontal Sight Alignment Test. All laser guns were operated by certified police personnel. Police personnel recorded the results. Laser Atlanta's SpeedLaser II did not have the most current programming as the SpeedLaser IV is available with on board anti-jamming technology and settings. Unfortunately we did not have the newer programming and the results of the new programming were not used. Laser Atlanta products are IACP approved and appear on the Conforming Product List, CPL. We only report performance on IACP approved  laser guns.

Independent Product Testing

Field Test, Texas June 2009 (Extracts from the field test below. See the complete story at speedzones website.)

"BLINDER is Denmark made with obvious attention to durability and to performance. BLINDER has been at SML field tests for over ten years. Unfortunately, other laser counter measures have apparently copied BLINDER's patented, successful product design without permission with the attitude of prosecute me behind my border and good luck." If they do this to BLINDER, think what they will do to you as a customer..."

"Our E.E. engineer Dave Adams verified pulse rates of each laser gun. John Turner of 1st Radar Detectors, came from Colorado with the new BLINDER M47 mounted in the grill of his truck. BLINDER products are designed for small and large vehicles. M47 has four front mounted transponders to cover large SUV surfaces. In cars, you only need two. See BLINDER's web site for specific product features. Leon was bold. He said, "test it against every laser gun you have. Jamming or attempting to jam a police laser gun is not against any federal law. Some states do ban them, so check first. We will not test illegal products banned by the federal government meaning alleged radar jammers."

"We used the same nine laser guns used in the laser reception and reporting test against the BLINDER mounted on John's truck, a motorcycle, and a Mustang. We set cones at 1,000 feet and 500 feet. The test vehicle drove at 30 mph. Faster speeds are to the advantage of BLINDER. The test vehicle counted down, "three, two, one" at each cone. The officer then fired the laser gun. Graphs are great, but not needed here. In the 162 runs against all lasers at 1,000 ft, and 500 ft. cones, by the truck, the Mustang, and the motorcycle, all with a BLINDER mounted, BLINDER successfully jammed each laser gun, each time. We are still scratching our heads on how BLINDER did it."

THE IMPORTANCE OF YOUR NUMBER PLATE & WHY RADAR/LASER DETECTORS DON'T WORK

Because of the small spread of laser light, laser makes it possible to aim very accurately at the working parts of a distance motor vehicle. The most reflective parts of a moving vehicle are the headlights and more importantly the number plate which reflects laser light extremely well. The colour of your car is also important to the reflective qualities of the vehicle. Dark colours work best, while light coloured paint work will reflect more laser light and make you vehicle easier to detect.

This is the reason why radar detectors are next to useless against Laser Speed Guns. At no time should a laser gun emit radiation at the level of the windscreen, leaving the combined Laser / Radar Detectors looking like a stupid dashboard ornament.

Most importantly of all, by the time your old radar/laser detector has "bleeped" its warning, a laser gun has measured the speed of your car 1000 times leaving you no time to react.

BLINDER M27

Why do you think many police services around the world are turning their backs on radar speed guns? Because laser speed guns make radar/laser detectors useless dashboard ornaments!
